Kent Man to File Racial Discrimination Suit

Jermaine Massey belonging to Washington’s Kent City is now planning to file suit against DoubleTree Hotel in Northeast Portland for racially discriminating against him.

Attorney Greg Kafoury said that his client was racially discriminated by the hotel staff and everything that happened there was recorded and streamed live on social media.

As per Massey, he was discriminated and asked to leave the property for being African-American. As per him, he was visiting Portland for the first time.

As per the attorney, his client Massey also has worked for law enforcement.

He said that Massey had worked undercover for the Federal Department of Justice and used to be a human source at the FBI.

But, the FBI is yet to confirm the version owing to the shutdown.

The hotel meanwhile had issued an apology to Massey stating that no such events would happen in future and they were sorry for the way he was treated.

Video of the whole incident was posted on Twitter and Instagram as well. And it became viral in no time.

Massey was seen talking to the security guard that he possessed a room in that hotel and he did not do anything to him. He also said to the guard that he was only sitting in the lobby and talking to his mother.

In the video posted by Massey, hotels staffs can be clearly seen telling him to leave the property.

Massey told that he was staying as a guest in that hotel. After he came back from a concert at Moda Centre, he sat in the lobby at 11 p.m. talking to his mother, and the guard racially addressed him the moment he sat in the lobby and asked whether he had a room there or not.

As per the hotel staff when asked about the possession of a room, he did not tell his room number, so they had to ask him to leave. And they had to do it owing to the security of their guests.

Kafoury said that they were anticipating filing a suit for racial discrimination against the hotel. There were certain questions need to be answered like why Massey was selectively asked about the room possession and why was he interrogated.

Replying to this turn of events, the Hotel also had issued a statement apologizing Massey.

The hotel stated in the statement that the safety and security of the guests was their priority at the DoubleTree by Hilton Portland. Terming that incident as unfortunate, the hotel said that the incident might have caused due to the misunderstanding between the hotel staff and the guest. The hotel staffs were sorry that the whole matter ended that way and they were a place of accommodation, and they never discriminated against any group or individual.

The hotel also said that the hotel was seeking the counsel of community leaders, and will engage a third-party to conduct a full investigation into the incident and the staffs concerned with the incident had been sent on leave and would be on leave till the investigation ended.
