No, we don’t wish for you to be sleep deprived! The pun on the words of the famous Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan starrer (Sleepless in Seattle) was our way to implore you to explore what is Washington State’s largest as also a seaport city surrounded by nature and home to tech giants Microsoft and Amazon. If you may start your exploration in the first month of the year, we are sure you’d get to tick some attractions off your Seattle bucket list by February.

14/48: The World’s Quickest Theatre Festival

At this quick theatre fest, you may be a spectator to “14 world premiere plays written, cast, designed, directed, scored, rehearsed and performed in 48 hours…” A challenge to the city’s talented and most daring artistes, it all started in 1997, when the entire troupe would gather on Thursday night. In one night, the chosen writers are asked to write the play based on the theme. Fridays see directors and cast chosen at random. Musicians form a brand-new band, and on Friday, the motley group premieres exclusive plays that lodge a forever moment in time for the audience. The spectators are asked for a new theme for the plays, and the cycle begins again.

Enhance your nautical know-how at Seattle Boat Show

An indoors as also an outdoors event, the show, as the name suggests, has boats on display inside the CenturyLink Field event center. While you may find some sailing at South Lake Union (Chandler’s Cove). From free boat rides to craft beer, to insightful classes on maritime skills, the event offers to cover it all for boating aficionados.

Event organizers have reportedly partnered with local hotels to offer guests and exhibitors special group rates. While you are at it, you may like to get a glimpse of famous landmarks or attractions or stop for a quick grub at restaurants around Seattle that are at a stone’s throw from the venue. You may include this as part of your expanded boat show itinerary.

Over 230 boating and fishing seminars headlined by maritime experts are featured each year, giving participants a low-down on boating and nautical know-how, cruising and also boat maintenance. The 2019 show boasts of 25 new presenters, additional panels and latest seminars addressing technology, electronics, communications, and navigation.

When: January 25 to February 2, 2019

Time: The timings for both events vary with South Lake Union having outdoor events from 11 pm to 5 pm on weekdays and 10 pm to 5 pm on weekends.

Seattle Chamber Music Winter Festival

The theme of the 2019 Winter Festival explores the development of music from the iconic romantic classics of Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms, through inventive and emotional masterpieces of the mid-20th century.

The special musical line-up:

January 18: Beethoven’s “Ghost” piano trio, with its haunting, spectral 2nd movement. The opening scene of Hamlet, a play by Shakespeare is said to have inspired the melody.

January 19: Brahms’ magnificent Op. 25 Piano Quartet

January 25: Janáček’s first String Quartet based on Tolstoy’s riveting novella “The Kreutzer Sonata.”

January 27: All-French concert featuring masterpieces of Saint-Saëns, Fauré, and Debussy.

Where: Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall.
